About
Daniel Silver's Untitled sculptures from 2008 occupy an indeterminate position between unfinished and completed, man-made and natural. During a 2007 visit to the Italian marble quarry city of Carrara, the artist happened upon discarded copies of Greco-Roman statuary which he 'appropriated' and carved into, subsequently displaying them on roughened wooden plinths. Silver reclaimed these busts, considered imperfect by local artisans, reassessing their worth and originality, and the passage of an object from artwork to artefact.
