A trip to Italy!
12 June 2024
In New York, I was a very proud mum of Tiffany, who was co-chairing the YCC at the Guggenheim
In London, I had a chance to visit the incredible Woody De Othello at Stephen Friedman Gallery. His work gets more ambitious each year
Then I caught a wonderful show at Thaddaeus Ropac of Erwin Wurm; always a delight
I had so much fun exploring with my bestie Cindy
Then we were off to Milan, Italy, where the lovely Zegna Family showed us around their factories and also their art installations, including this wonderful Burren installation on the rooftops
Meanwhile at HQ for Design Week I spotted this apple made of lamb’s wool with metal stitching
We dropped into Peres Projects where we saw the most wonderful artworks by the young and adventurous artist Daniele Toneatti in the exhibition titled ‘Brand New Love’. Toneatti assembles a captivating atlas of his own journey into visual culture. Perhaps a future great?
Then, we had a one-night trip to Rome to visit Day for Night: New American Realism, at Palazzo Barberini. The exhibition was curated by Massimiliano Gioni and Flaminia Gennari Santori who have selected over 150 works from the collection of Tony and Elham Salamé . It was just magnificent! You enter under Glenn Ligon’s ‘America’ sign.
As I was moving from room to room, I realised this was the biggest salon hanging I had ever seen. Artists such as Seth Price and Laura Owens were juxtaposed together
A whole wall of my favourite artist Jamian Juliano-Villani, wow!
Then there was a whole room devoted to Woody De Othello; I was in awe of this collection!
Final stop, Venice, where I reunited with my girlfriends Hazel Collins and Lauren Taschen
St Mark’s Square what a dream!
First Stop was Palazzo Grassi where an exhibition titled ‘Ensemble’ brought together works by Julie Mehretu, Caroline Bourgeois and other artists including David Hammons
A wonderful Paul Pfeiffer created a disturbing parallel between two types of devotion: one by Catholic religion and the other by the media
At Dogana was the amazing Pierre Huyghe. The works were so poignant and urgent, some of the most exciting explorations of human and non-human life in the exhibition which was titled ‘Liminal’
‘UUmwelt-Annlee’ is a work by Huyghe created through neural networks by a brain computer interface
Then I had some more time with my girlfriends. Margherita Stabiumi hosted a beautiful dinner in her apartment for us all including collector Eva Dichand
