Armory Week: Part One
20 March 2019
Before I left for NYC I managed to have my first Magic Leap One experience at Serpentine Gallery. It was interesting watching Marina Abramović create a performance. The experimental experience was set up as a laboratory, the viewer felt like they were part of an experiment as the staff in white coats escorted us around a big circle. Augmented Reality glasses still have a long way to go
In NYC, I loved Grace Weaver ‘Slow Dancers’ at James Cohan Gallery
At Perriton there was a wonderful show by artist Artie Vierkant, ‘Image Objects’ series
Locks Gallery was the best gallery in The Armory Show. Lynda Benglis’ ‘Swinburne Egg’ was beautiful
At Gallery Hyundai’s booth was a wonderful Nam June Paik sculpture called ‘Cyberpunk’ from 1994
At Alison Jacques Gallery was ‘Evening in Sedona’ by Dorothea Tanning, an exemplary work
At Eva Presenhuber we were able to acquire a beautiful Jean Appriou work called ‘The gear of the suns’. Hooray!
We loved the Lynn Chadwick at Blaine Southern
In the evening, at NeueHouse, we were honoured to witness a conversation with DIS. Solomon and Lauren gave a wonderful talk hosted by Julie Solovyeva. It was a big success with a large audience!
A great photo with Daata artists, Jeremy Couillard and Matt Copson, alongside David Gryn
The past few days have been deeply troubled, a brilliant young artist and wonderful family friend passed away at the age of 22. The whole world around him affected. Rest in peace beautiful Kai, we have watched him grow from childhood, always loving his friends and family. This is Kai in my Art Diary the ‘Budding Artist’ in 2011
Kai in 2014 with his brother Adrian meeting Eddie Peake at the ICA, I described both brothers as being ‘Art Hungry’
Finally in 2016 at one of their first shows in New York, ‘Rubbish’
