Armory week parties continued
13 March 2016
The next day I went to see Kai and Adrian Schachter’s show ‘Rubbish,’ which they put on with a bunch of their friends in Nolita. It was most definitely not rubbish. Here they are with Lucas Hoffman.
I really liked this work by Adrian. It’s really strong and playful, not an easy line to tow.
Next I went to Jorg Grimm’s 40th birthday party at the comically named Art Bar. Matthew Day Jackson messing around and writing on the box of a gift of a painting from Adam Helms.
Always great to see Nick van Woert and Langdon Graves.
The next day, I headed to the Met Breuer, which at first looked exactly the same as the Whitney used to.
But the show is distinctly Met, chronicling unfinished painting from the Renaissance to the present. I love this drawing of Saint Barbara by Jan van Eyck from 1437. The level of detail is incomprehensible.
Robert Smithson’s meaning of ‘unfinished’ is a bit different. I was fixated on this work and can imagine it on a massive scale.
And this unfinished Lucien Freud painting is almost perfect in its unfinished quality, but is it wrong to view it as a final piece?
I was thrilled to run into Isaac Julien.
And we ended up watching Indian music.
Then there was just enough time to run to MoMA PS1 and catch Night at The Museum. I am so happy I got a final chance to see Greater New York. #NoMoreCircles is made entirely of gummy bears.
And Kevin Beasley’s gone round too, with a work made of an equally unlikely material, women’s dresses.
