Art Basel 2018
15 July 2018
The next day I was at Art Basel and Heidi Bucher’s ‘Dragonfly (Costume Object)’ from 1976 was monumental
Also, at The Approach was Amanda Ross-Ho’s ‘Untitled Timepiece (THE LANGUAGE TO DESCRIBE OUR PATHOLOGY HAS NOT YET BEEN INVENTED)’, 2018
In front of a Christopher Wool the girls, Tatiana, Tiffany and Olivia were planning an Instagram assault on Simon and I!
My favourite work of the art show were these beautiful sunglasses lenses by Jim Lambie at Sadie Coles
We also loved Sarah Lucas’ sexy legs
The best moment for me was hanging out with the youngsters!
It was great to see Ed Atkins’ ‘Safe Conduct Epidermal (for Parkett no. 98)’, 2016 which we already have in the collection
Michael E. Smith’s two swans at KOW was most poetical. Found taxidermy on the internet
Tiffany loved the Jacqueline Humphries at Greene Naftali
Doreen Garner at JTT was a killer
Our final day in Basel was spent visiting the museums. At the newly refurbished Kunstmuseum there was a wonderful show by Sam Gilliam who was born in 1933, same year as my mother. His work is often described as the ‘Music of Colour’
The new space is attached to Hauptbau which was designed in 1936 by architect Rudolf Christ and his colleague Paul Bonatz – magnificent
We bumped into Alain Servais in the corridor wearing the Zabludowicz Collection Jon Rafman Cool Aid badge on his lapel. Thanks Alain for flying the flag!
We then had time to visit Jamie Fitzpatrick and Lindsey Mendick’s show ‘SMUT’. The work was presented in a very lively manner - I loved Lindsey and James’ energy
Lindsey’s ceramic works were full of life and vigor – a brilliant sense of humour
My highlight was Bruce Nauman ‘Disappearing Acts’ at Schaulager, one of the best exhibitions I have ever seen
He continues to produce astonishingly diverse and uniquely radical works
