Art Basel: Day One
18 July 2019
We all had a lovely visit to Design Miami/Basel, it was full of wonderful surprises. Lizzie checking out Jonathan Trayte’s work
View from the front
I spotted a beautiful sofa by Bernard Govin at Ligne Roset
I was taken by the early 1990s Betty Woodman glass vases
Both unique and one of a kind
Roy checking out the mid-century furniture
We fell for one of the wonderful lamps by OrtaMiklos that we had already seen in Berlin’s Functional Art Gallery established by Benoît Wolfrom and Javier Peres
Over at Art Basel’s Unlimited the work ‘Nirvana’ by Xu Zhen was insane. I loved the way that a whole gaming table would painstakingly be drawn by grains of sand and then brushed away like a beautiful Richter painting
There were some elaborate folk walking around
At the main fair I loved the series ‘Settings’ by Magali Reus at The approach
At Anton Kern I found the most perfect Anne Collier
Massimo Minini had a mesmerising Sheila Hicks
I spotted an Alicja Kwade at Johann König
At Hauser & Wirth there was an incredible work by the genius Keith Tyson, my favourite painting at Basel!
Inside LISTE Galerie Joseph Tang were showing an interesting artist called Julie Béna
I loved this work by Michael Fullerton at Koppe Astner, ‘Paris Hilton’s Sperm Donor (Dalofaelid Phenotype)’
