ART MIAMI BASEL 2012
8 December 2012
I drop by on my way to Miami via NYC I pop into Team Gallery...
and bump into a fellow blogger... but I am not one of those I write an Art Diary!
Straight from the airport to the new Art Fair on the block Untitled. A cavern of unlimited pleasures, from long legged high healed blonde girls and fit muscular shorter blokes to art of all shapes and sizes placed everywhere. PR companies dominate the scene and policing all the parties making sure only the pretty people enter overlooking the poor old disgruntled collectors and gallerists. I liked very much the works of Sheree Hovsepian, we acquired a work for the collection.
Then to Art Basel Miami where Don and Mera are on hand to do the meet and greet.
The Rubell Collection this year was great and austere. Oscar Murillo dominates the main gallery. As well as the art there were some vibrant visitors.
The Tosender Speicher (thunderous accumulator) by Pipilotti Rist was very interesting at Luhring Augustine.
Norma and Norman Stone looking Great!
Kessler works at Salon 94 were extremely funny!
We acquired some fabulous Pablo Accinelli football collages for the collection.
We missed all the Nick Van Woert works - they were sensational. This one at L & M gallery.
And this work at Yvon Lambert.
KAWs and Takashi Marakami have joined forces. You can now have your portrait lovingly placed in the middle of a Marakami art work.
Ged Quinn’s take on Jesus the Cat was kooky
Over at NADA Keith Farquhar looked quite delicious.
The highlight for me at Nada was seeing Michael E Smith at Clifton Benevento Gallery.
Cole from London were showing Yelena Popova – great to see our Invites leaflet in full view! Coles Booth was a total highlight, subtle circles and strong works.
There were so many babies and toddlers all over the place. Daphne Fitzpatrik’s Santa at American Contemporary was looking very ominous but did not seem to disturb this little one.
Sarah Braman was not put off changing her gorgeous baby in Canada booth on the lovely Persian carpets.
Meanwhile back at the ‘Big’ fair the Lawrence Luhring was happily giving baby a helping hand to take his first steps.
Thaddeus Ropac was showing Terence Koh’s “Big Black Cock” I thought it was a steal.
On the subjects of cockerel's... still looking at Blake Rayne and too chicken to make the move.
The juxtaposition of the Diana Al-Hadid and the Kon Trubkovich looked divine. All Kon’s painting’s were sold, they were magnificent, must be faster next time!
My eye got very attracted to Andrea Bowers I liked this work at Susanne Vielmetter Projects.
We went to so many meetings and so many dinners. There were so many wonderful interactions between art people. I loved the dynamics of the whole fair. Donna de Salvo called Miami “ an anthropology of people”. Thomas Dane, MOMA, Carol Greene, Standard, Koenig, Herald Street and Kordansky, all gave wonderful dinners and we felt very spoilt. We had some wonderful meetings this is Lizzie with Sam Falls talking about his work and residency next year in Finland.
As we sat there the words “Everything is collected nothing is saved” “We are rich we can do what we want” “Blah Blah Blah Blah Blah Blah” flew past.
At The Still House Group the Art Non Art question arose once again... Art this time by LA boy Dylan Lynch
Leaving Miami and with an eye to spot art I spotted some real art in one of the Miami art shops.
Then at the airport not to be disappointed Fish Art was on public display! Bye Bye Miami it was IMMENSE!
after the long flight to NYC, us art addicts and had to seek another hit so dropped to see some works by Rosy Keyser and BOOM we were high again!
