Finland, Finland, Finland
20 June 2014
I had managed to have a few more days in Finland to enjoy the residencies and great Finnish weather
Here's everyone very happily relaxed and hung-over from loads of Finnish food, vodka and sauna.
Then after another late night we are back in Helsinki where Sanna Mari Jantti is showing us the site of the exciting new Guggenheim. She explains about the Architectural competition launch.
Polly Staple and Vincent Honoré bravely march on.
For a slight reprieve we visited the beautiful home of Kyösti Kakkonen and Johanna Borson where we had a wonderful glimpse of their stunning glass, painting and ceramic collection. They were assisted by Markku Valkonen and Harri Kalha.
The home had some perfectly beautiful moments with the help of Scandinavian furniture and decorative arts.
Ceramics by Birger Kaipainen were shown in the wine cellars amongst Ilmari Tapiovaara furniture and Tapio Wirkkala pieces. A joy to behold and a feast for the eyes.
Then off to the City Museum hosted by Claire Gould where we had a lovely lunch before seeing the Maria Wirkkala exhibition, Maria is the daughter of Tapio. A very relaxed Elizabeth Dee enjoying every moment.
Bye-bye surface, as we all rode on the subway escalator.
Surrounded by Stuart Shave and Caragh Thuring we headed down into the huge voluminous underground station to see work by Otto Karvonen and Hanna Haaslahti.
Nick Merriman and Maria Balshaw descending the tube.
Otto Karvonen.
One more day in paradise and another chance to see some to the awesome work Sam Falls has produced for his show with us on June 26th. A shadow painting in progress,
and a 'Falls forest'. They’ll be on show at Zabludowicz Collection this summer alongside Sam’s other works and amazing solo shows by Adriano Costa, Samara Scott, Michael E. Smith and Rachel Pimm.
