Finland to London to New York
23 June 2024
I was in the countryside with Pilar Corrias, Eva Presenhuber, and Christian Schmidt. We have a lovely lunch together
We all admired the beautiful countryside
While I was in London… Tiffany visited Frieze and finally met Collection artist Anastasia Komar at Management Gallery
…and in Berlin Lizzie met up with our favourite Marianna Simnett for the opening of her brand-new show EURO 2024 show - ‘WINNER’ - here they are with our Henry. We miss you Henry!
Next up, I was hopping through London with plenty to see. Here is the wonderful Autumn Wallace at Josh Lilley
Hiding in a corner were these beautiful moth wings by Rebecca Manson
Then it was time for a wonderful trip to New York, which started on the magic carpet by Jemima Sieff at Olivia and Lily Cohen’s show ‘Lux Feminae’, so full of new talent and energy. This was my favourite moment, basking in the afternoon light
Here I am with Olivia who curated the show alongside Clarissa Losciale Boulton and Lily Cohen
My lovely friend Eva Dichand and I checked out the jewellery at a boutique run by Maia Twombly and Rosa Canina; many of the objects were made in Mexico
We also had a few studio visits and loved the work by Octavia Greig
Then we visited Olivia’s friend Natasha Luiza Bourne at her NYU studio
Her work was intense, and I felt she was starting a rigorous journey
Then it was a quick sprint to the 'Sleeping Beauties' show at the Met before I headed off to a Mother’s Day lunch
We also celebrated the birthday of Carole Server in front of a jacket of gold and silk by Thom Browne
We were greeted by Sissel Tolaas who is a smell curator! Who would have thought the dresses of bygone age would have so many smells. She explained it to us in great detail and we were all fascinated by her lecture
A treat was to visit Tomm El-Saieh and Diego Singh at Luhring Augustine in Tribeca. Tomm’s work was very constructive
Singh’s work was more abstract, and used paint, poured and brushed in various ways
Another real trip highlight was visiting 52 Walker where Arthur Jafa had produced the show 'Black Power Tool and Die Trying'. My favourite moment was the structures that Jafa refers to as a ‘picture unit’
Of course, another highlight was visiting Hugh Hayden’s show ‘Hughmans’ what a pun! Hayden transfers mundane elements into explosive symbols. I loved the wonderful Soul Food work
The final visit was to Timothy Taylor where we saw Sahara Longe’s incredible work; this one is called ‘As We Are (after Otto Friedrich)’
We finished of the evening with Isaac Julien to celebrate his new show in MoMA
