Frieze New York
11 May 2012
I arrive in New York ready for action.
Straight to Hauser and Wirth where Matthew Day Jackson has curated an amazing show called 'Science On The Back End', including Erin Shirreff who'll join us in Finland this year and Larry Bamburg's sculptures of frozen bones.
The same night Aaron Curry had opened at Michael Werner Aaron’s show was really good.
Then to Salon 94 to visit Jeanne Greenberg where I met again David Benjamin Sherry; he is showing downtown. Also Liz Cohen with her lovely little boy, she was a big hit by reaching front page of New York Times, showing her incredible converted car in Frieze.
Cindy Sherman’s show at Metro was fun. I loved this photo where she is trying to be some sort of Glittery Scandinavian, reminds me of Finland.
Anish Kapoor’s show at Barbara Gladstone was interesting.
Then Frieze art Fair. We acquired for the collection a young artist called Samara Golden at Night Gallery, an LA gallery opening only after dark.
Hauser and Wirth Paul McCarthy in front of work by Diana Thater.
One of my friends - cannot remember who - showing of her new socks.
Amanda Ross Ho at Mitchell Innes and Nash.
We host a dinner for Tate with Maryam and Ed Eisler with American Patrons of Tate. Maryam is the Executive Editor of British Artists and their Studios. Jessica Morgan, myself and Amanda Sharp.
Great atmosphere.
Then to the Box to watch some raunchy performances.
Simon Preston, Ethan Breckenridge, Jake Miller and Caragh Thuring a little stunned by the show.
Then NADA: we loved the work by Erik Wysocan at Laurel Gitlen.
Then it was back on the streets of Chelsea. Tonico Lemos Auad show at CRG.
Lizzie resting in the Ernesto Neto Pod in Tanya Bonakdar Gallery
Tiffany resting in Ernesto Neto Pod.
Ernesto Neto demonstrating his knitting skills.
We loved the show of Lisa Oppenheim at Harris Lieberman.
N Dash at Untitled
Tauba Aubach at Paula Cooper
I dash home to the freezing cold weather and drop by to lovely warm Zabludowicz Collection at 176 where John Summers show is there to see. And yes it is definitely an Original!Easy week this week drop by to Nic Deshayes’ new show at Johnathan Viner’s new gallery. Definitely an eye catcher, next week catch up with Lizzie in Sarvisalo.
