Hello, New York: Part One
11 December 2019
I landed in New York on the same evening as the opening of Hans Haacke’s ‘All Connected’ at the New Museum. The show was full of activism and political criticism. I was confronted by the 1983 painting of Margaret Thatcher which features cameos by Charles and Maurice Saatchi on broken plates, representing their influence on her political campaign
He created a prominent painting of Ronald Reagan
At the Whitney Rachel Harrison used the same portrait within her sculpture
Another famous face, Sylvester Stallone
Loved this drawing from 2012
A couple of visitors taking some time out from Rachel’s monumental show
Next up, Walead Beshty at Petzel Gallery which features cyanotype prints originally commissioned by Barbican Centre for his 2014 show
Kelley Walker and Walead
Karen Robinovitz, co-founder of the slime filled SloomooInstitute. Great fun!
Innovative and creative, a must for slime lovers. Here’s one of the merry workers showing how it works!
There was much to do and play with!
Meanwhile in Brussels, at the Art on Paper fair Daata were displaying new works by Keren Cytter
Then the sad news that the wonderful Stefan Edlis passed away
One of my fondest memories was visiting him in Aspen surrounded by great art, such as works by Maurizio Cattelan and Jeff Koons
