On the way back from Australia I dropped into Paris’ Chantal Crousel and met up with artist Danh Vô and collector Mimi Dusselier
At the Eurostar lounge it was good to see some art on display by Sarah Meyohas
Great to be home in London, I went to check out Alex Israel’s new body of work which reflects the native LA artist. A nostalgic and glamorous look at the American Dream
At Simon Lee Gallery, France-Lise McGurn’s show ‘Percussia’ was beautiful
Back at HQ the show’s a big success, it was wonderful to see so many interesting works get an airing. Most of the artists in ‘No horizon, no edge to liquid’ are products of international movement – born in one place, educated in another, settled somewhere else
The show was curated by students from MA Culture, Criticism and Curation at Central Saint Martins; MA Curating and Collections at Chelsea College of Arts; and MA Film Programming and Curating at Birkbeck College
At Camden Arts Centre we met up with Walter Price who was the artist in residence
There was also a lovely show by artist Argentine-Swiss artist Vivian Suter who moved to Guatemala in her thirties to work and live in the jungle. Suter had an organic approach to her work, leaving canvases exposed to the extreme elements
We were lucky enough to have Antony Gormely kick off this year’s Master Class at ZC. Each established artist provides vital mentorship to emerging artists selected through an open call, and then gives a public lecture in the evening. Gormley discussed his career, which spans nearly half a century, and his use of organic, industrial and elemental materials, to create his monumental sculptures and installations
Joey Holder was wonderful, talking about her weird and fascinating world! Holder’s immersive, multimedia installations raise philosophical questions of our universe and the future of science, medicine, biology and human-machine interactions
For over fifty years, Judith Bernstein has created provocative, political and sexual large scale drawings and paintings
Judith with her student from back home in the USA, artist Rachael Champion
Last but not least, Thomas J Price discussed his fascination with body language, facial expression and external presentation. He uses sculpture, film and photography to deal with issues of representation in society
At Christie’s the BFAMI ladies Ilana Fattal and Pamela Crystal were gearing themselves for a great night ahead at the Gala
Our lovely Chairman and the BFAMI team were wined and dined by Denise Esfandi the night before
The BFAMI Gala was a big success, Edmund de Waal preparing for his incredible speech which received a much deserved standing ovation
Interior designer Kelly Hoppen enjoying the ambience and exquisite table settings
Javier Peres came all the way from Berlin to support us
Then it was back to work, Jordan Wolfson’s show called ‘ARTISTS FRIENDS RACISTS’ at Sadie Coles HQ was a big success. These fans are programmed with numbers, characters, symbols and words
Then time to relax on my new/old Roche Bobois sofa with Jean Pierre Tortil who has started his new Atelier in Paris
