I am in Japan!
12 June 2024
I am in Japan and Team Zab Lizzie and Julia are at Foundation Louis Vuitton
LuYang is showing her second DOKU film, and it is very exciting, I can’t wait to see this exhibition
Before we headed off to Naoshima we checked out the sights of Osaku and it was bright and busy. Here Liam stands in front of the crowds
We found a little bar and this very sweet gentleman served us whiskey with some huge ice cubes!
We went to the Chichu Art Museum, a big mausoleum built by Tadao Ando to worship one or two works which were magnificent. We entered a big square space where I spent a good hour meditating
Then we walked to the Walter De Maria space which was just awe inspiring
Then, in the Benesse House Museum was the equally impressive Bruce Nauman’s ‘100 Live and Die’ where he was trying to reveal humans true nature existing in conflict with society
Everywhere I turned was perfection, right down to the inner Hiroshi Sugimoto courtyard. At the end of this trip I was not sure if we were worshipping the art or Tadao Ando
Then we were back in the big city in Tokyo admiring in the midst of the hustle bustle and of course, the cherry blossom
Suddenly we were with Alex Israel eating Panda Donuts
And enjoying the Japanese ice cream!
I loved the food, and a cat joined me each time
I met up with Simon De Pury
Food and art was the theme of this trip and I had a wonderful meal with Edward Lee and Alison Jacques
I went to the Yokohama Triennale which was really good. In the grand hall I encountered so many wonderful works, including Jeremy Deller ‘The Battle of Orgreave’ which was wonderful
Josh Kline was showing
Puck Verkade’s work titled ‘Uprooted’ in the former Daiichi Bank was great and whimsical
This was some painting I had not seen such as the artist Rita Siegfried
And Tomiyama Taeko
Then there was the familiar Lewis Hammond which I loved
