London Life
21 February 2017
Cartagena
in Colombia was quite a revelation. It’s Oscar Murillo’s country so I was
excited to see what it had to offer
Nohra Haime Gallery with our host Marcia Mishaan
The artist Ruby Rumié worked with around 50 female street vendors for her piece ‘Weaving Streets.’ Usually wearing their own beautiful and colourful dresses, Ruby dressed the women in plain white to reveal the most stunning portraits
Back in London and there was an array of wonderful happenings. We opened our fantastic show ‘One & Other’ at the Zabludowicz Collection, which was a collaboration between MA Curating students from Sir John Cass and Chelsea Colleges of Art
And we had the brilliant Master Class talks programme running alongside with Chantal Joffe, Eve Sussman and Heather Phillipson all giving captivating presentations
Chantal had a really interesting discussion with the academic Dr Gemma Blackshaw
Heather spoke about her practice and used a lot of dog references. The talk started with an abstract epilogue of a dogs dinner!
I also had time to check out Heather’s proposal for the fourth plinth in Trafalgar Square. ‘The End’ with its cream and parasites was definitely the most ambitious of all five
Lovely to see Ron Arad who was an honoured guest for BFAMI’s 70th anniversary dinner, oh and me again with Michael Craig Martin who had given works as support
Artist Helen Benigson proudly showed me her donated work, which to her delight sold straight away
It was such a glamorous evening and we all had a wonderful time. Sir Nicholas Serota present for the last time as Director of Tate with me and my girlfriend #lisalovesart
Jeff Koons had also donated a wonderful ballerina edition, which was snapped up in a second
Me again with Maria Baibakova, who donated to the Museums Education Programmes
