London to Berlin Gallery Weekend

I head back home to London for a couple of days and I’m in awe of Lindsey Mendick’s Invites show ‘Perfectly Ripe’ at the gallery. The installation is a mixture of sculpture and audio, the setting a family holiday
Lindsey is confronting difficult childhood memories
I managed to make it to the final day of Eloise Hawser’s show ‘By the deep, by the mark’ at Somerset House. The work centers around the River Thames, looking at past and future sewage systems. A happy Eloise in front of one of her artworks!
The show is a result of two years of research, my most favourite work being ‘Wall Shear Stress, Velocity, and Pressure in a Human Aortic Model’, 2018
Then I dropped into to check out Sarah Cain’s new show ‘Wild Flower’ at Timothy Taylor, where she is challenging the conventions of painting always using the most fantastical luminous colours
I loved the show ‘Source and Stimulus: Polke, Lichtenstein and Laing’ at Lévy Gorvy. The show is devoted to the Benjamin Day dot, a printing process developed in the late 19th Century
Thaddaeus Ropac introduced the work of Alvaro Barrington. ‘A Taste of Chocolate’ curated by Norman Rosenthal. He is an intense, serious young artist
He wanted to capture the same energy as his studio. Managing at a young age to attract the interest Maria Balshaw, Director of Tate
I then scramble to Serpentine where Ian Cheng’s trilogy ‘Emissaries’, 2015-17 is on view for all to see. Proud ‘lil sis’ Yana Peel giving a lovely speech about ‘Emissaries’ which is a habitat for stories. The viewer will never experience the exact same moment in successive viewings of the work
Followed by Monika Kerkmann representing Julia Stoschek Collection, where the following evening they were opening the very same show
Julia Stoschek Collection also had the special added attention to Ian’s sketches which were used in his films
In Berlin, ahead of the crowds, I managed to see Loris Gréaud's show ‘a still life’ at Galerie Max Hetzler. I loved these spore like forms hanging from the ceiling with pulsating light inspired by the film Stalker by Andrei Tarkovsky in 1979
My favourite moment was visiting our new Jeppe Hein bench at his studio before it heads to Finland
