Meanwhile, Everything Else
19 October 2018
On the same night as Rachel Maclean’s opening we were continuing our 360: VR Room programme with Jordan Wolfson’s brutal work ‘Real Violence’ - not recommended for the light hearted
In our Invites gallery we presented the works of Josefine Reisch. Based on historical references the work focuses on Renaissance portraiture and Gluck’s paintings from the 1930s. Josefine is obsessed by the profile – the show includes a sculpture made out of pink dental wax with secret noses at its feet. An artist to be admired
I had time to drop by to Camden Arts Centre where Martin Clark gave me a sneak preview of the Amy Sillman show. The work was quite new to me and hard to grasp but I could see that Amy is a master of experimentation and uses her individual language
Then off to Naples to visit Walead Beshty’s mini retrospective at Thomas Dane Gallery. The work was extensive and there were some good surprises, such as this copper work waiting to have finger prints all over it. Touch me if you dare!
The next day was holiday time, we took the ferry to Capri with Walead, Caragh Thuring, Francois Chantala and Thomas Dane. The before picture…
The after… taken on a friends boat in Capri. This was a slice of heaven and a day to remember
Meanwhile back at Zabludowicz Collection Hazel Brill’s workshop had created some weird happenings in cooking pots
I had time to visit Frank Dunphy, the ex-business manager of Damien Hirst, who was auctioning his collection at Sotheby’s. Most of Frank’s works were mainly gifts from Damien
There was even a lovely little Tracey Emin tapestry which I put in a bid for
I was delighted and proud of Anj Smith who was showing ‘Sea Lily, Feather Star’ at Sara Hildén Art Museum in Tampere, Finland
We were very proud of Donna Huanca as she opened her solo show ‘Piedra Quemada’ at the Belvedere in Vienna - a huge success. Donna transformed the area using sculpture, large format paintings, video and soundscapes whilst continuing to reference the palace’s architecture and Egon Schiele. Well done Donna!
