The season starts with a splash.
29 January 2013
It was Testing Ground at the Zabludowicz Collection once again and the highlight were MA Curating students from Goldsmith and Chelsea College collaborating in a show together called “Disappearing into one” which personally I thought very special. This group of clever savvy young future greats had used the collection to create the show and had managed to curate an essence of myself and the collection and I felt very in harmony with their interpretation. I felt very at home at the collection, which sometimes has not been the case.
Laura Buckley’s reconfigured work had taken the whole of the back room covering the expanse of a 16-metre long wall. Lizzie, Ellen, Maitreyi and the gang had also put together a fabulous program and opening party. I am so gutted I am missing the Master Classes with artists such as Dexter Dalwood, Omer Fast, Saskia Olde-Wolbers and Brian Griffiths giving one-on-one tuition to emerging artists and lectures to the public, lead and orchestrated by Doug Fishbone.
A few gallery hops, I loved the work by welsh artist Tim Davies at Fold Gallery.
Also a visit to London Art Fair - plenty to see for first-time buyers. All stops were out to promote young artists and even the older emerging such as my favourite Nancy Fouts.
Josh Lilley was showing their jewel of an artist Analia Saban.
It was freezing cold in Kings Cross but we had loads of fun examining all 40 entries in Future Map at St Martins incredibly impressive gallery.
BA student Rafal Zajko was a close runner-up and I do love his work as stated in a previous diary post.
After Dean Nigel Carrington hands over the prize we head to the colletion for a fabulous bash of about 400 Zab-ites, and we go for it. First of all Wei Wang shows us her amazing jewellery.
Model and Chelsea College Student Beverly Calvert expertly shows how to wear one of Wei Wang’s more challenging pieces.
The same evening Lucy Whitford opens in Invites and her work is amazingly sophisticated she is mature beyond her years. Like most of our other Invite artists she is unrepresented so whoever signs her on is one very lucky gallery.
Laura Buckley and Jonty, Andy Spence, Ollie Basciano underneath James Ireland’s new work chosen for the show “Disappearing into One”
James Ireland and Mustafa Hulusi sharing a laugh or two.
The band The Eyes in the Heat playing with a background by Rhys Coren, plucking up a riot.
Then it was Berlin and Munich, in Berlin myself dressed as a WRAF and Harry Lubke from Eigen art dressed as himself. Then to Munich where I bumped into Hans-Ulrich Obrist and Maja Hoffman, Michaela de Pury and ten Chinese artists!
Lizzie took herself off to visit Andy Holden’s show at the Stanley Picker Gallery, which looked fun and intriguing. Next week I am off to India so looking forward to reporting back to you.
