Thursday - feeling Independent
3 March 2011
The next morning back at 1500 was again incredibly successful. Many came to visit us. I was very happy and overwhelmed the response was very positive which was most encouraging as we were not trying in any way to be pretentious and just wanted to talk about the now...
Roy pointed out to me how the Sarah Braman work complemented the building through the window to perfection.
The artists had the opportunity to meet other collectors. Ethan Brekenridge had a good chat with Mira Rubell...
and Nick van Woert with Don Rubell.
Roy was very proud to present the show to his Professor Tom Eccles and Marieluise Hessel from the Hessel collection in Bard where Roy was working each week to help archive the collection.
It turns out that Francesca Di Matteo, Garth Weiser and Ethan are all great friends.
Roy introduced Jameson to Sean Dack.
A very proud Zack Kitink ex Bard MFA stood in front of his floor sculpture in Alex’s show.
Lizzie, myself, Ethan, Sean and Oscar Schmidt posing for the camera. Oscar showed many collectors around our collection of Leipzig photography on the 24th Floor. He is the Leipzig Ambassador.
We then headed off to Independent and discovered a lovely Welsh artist called Dan Rees he is definitely one to watch out for.
But our big purchase of the day was a young Albanian artist her name is Tanya Roscic.
We found the work to be so rich. She had created this art work with a passion using all different techniques we were absolutely flabbergasted!
We headed off to the Moving Image show
The building and presentation was awesome I thought.
Shana Moulton's Intergalactic Pot Healer was the work that appealed to me.
Then off to Chelsea and we view Mark Flood's painting at Zak Feur there is something quite spiritual about his paintings.
Nick van Woert's Eclipses at Yvon Lambert ... all sold
and this one... I wonder who to?
Then to Mary Boone and behind a 45 tonne heap of white salt is a body. It is the beautiful Terence Koh in meditation. It was incredibly poetic I wanted to hug him and say ‘Hello’, instead I stood their serenely in a church like atmosphere breathing in the peaceful moment.
Then we dropped into Luhring Augustine where there was a stark contrast but I absolutely loved the Josh Smith paintings hanging on the walls or on their own fold up stages.
Also we peaked into the secret back room and spotted a magnificent Christopher Wool surrounded by some cool furniture and two black Glen Ligon paintings it was perfection.
Finally I dropped of Lizzie of at Phillips de Pury where she was in a panel discussion with Simon, Conrad Shawcross, Laurent Grasso and Kolkoz hosted by 360degrees. She promises me there was an audience.
On the way out I checked out the rubbish bags in the corner but turned out they were an early Richard Hughes work.
