About
Fabian Marti creates enigmatic montages of found images and materials using a domestic A4 scanner. The precision with which the scanner captures the materials Marti places on it reveals the dirt and imperfections of everyday life, imbuing the work with a gritty reality that stands in stark contrast to the imaginative and otherworldly imagery his scans depict. The ongoing Kaleidoscope series uses the covers of science fiction, suspense and crime fiction books from the 1970s and 1980s. By obliterating the titles and names from the covers, Marti frees the images of specific meanings, allowing them different resonances and endowing them with a powerful sense of mystery.
