About
Considered by many as one of the most innovative artists of her generation, Isa Genzken has produced consistently original work throughout her longstanding career. She brings together an array of cultural material to make complex sculptural assemblages which reference yet undermine the traditions of modernist art and architecture. Genzken is strongly influenced by the cities in which she has lived, the expanse of references in Genzken's oeuvre features everything from money, ancient monuments and Disney merchandise. She seeks to offer a mirror up to the viewer to provoke unexpected chains of association by her free-formed but tightly edited accumulations that often take the form of models or maquettes for buildings.
