About
In the 1970s, Rebecca Allen was a rare female artist working in the early stages of computer design and digital technology. Inspired by the aesthetics of motion, the study of perception and behaviour, and the potential of advanced technology, today Allen uses new tools to make innovative forms of art while reflecting on how these machines affect society more widely. Allen’s pioneering practice across research labs, numerous creative collaborations and art production spans over four decades and takes the form of experimental video, large-scale performances, live simulations, and VR and AR installations. Her constant focus has been on questions of gender, identity, and what it means to be human as technology increasingly redefines our sense of reality.
