About
Ulla von Brandenburg (born 1974) is a German artist. Brandenburg works across a variety of media, including drawing, painting, video, film, installation and performance, using elements of an image or object to communicate a multiplicity of stories. Untitled (2007) references Plato's allegory of the cave, in which man comes out of the realm of bondage and illusion to see the world as it truly is. The work is composed of elements made using various techniques, such as cut paper, sculpture and watercolour. Beginning with a found image of a cave, von Brandenburg has constructed a layered installation that deals with knowledge and blindness and displays a formal relationship to the cave and its famous allegory.
