Typus is made up of nine compositions of photographs of conifers, ordered according to their taxonomical types, accompanied by a list of invalid tree names. Practices of classification and ordering, while they are useful, ultimately can run the risk of leading to rigid thought patterns and have in some historical cases been used to justify discriminatory beliefs and policies. The innocent study of trees is here used to obliquely address this danger.
