Dani Gal - Krapp's Last Tape
About
Dani Gal, whose Historical Recordings Archive is exhibited as part of the show, has collaborated with actor Steve Ellery to stage Samuel Beckett's 1958 one-act play set on Krapp's sixty-ninth birthday as he customarily records the events of the previous year and reviews his past on an old tape recorder.
In Gal's adaptation, the play additionally becomes a sound performance that further amplifies Krapp's physical deterioration and his dependency on this machine. Dani Gal's work is concerned with memory and the recollection, recording and processes of writing history. His practice involves video, installation, collaborations and performances that often involve sound.
