Join us for a conversation between Willem Weismann and writer, academic and curator Stacy Boldrick, who will discuss waste and iconoclasm in relation to contemporary painting, with particular reference to Weismann’s current Invites exhibition Basement Odyssey.
Stacy Boldrick is a lecturer and Programme Director for the MA in Art Museum and Gallery Studies (School of Museum Studies) at the University of Leicester. Formerly Curator of Research and Interpretation at The Fruitmarket Gallery, Edinburgh, she writes about contemporary and medieval art and iconoclasm. Curatorial collaborations range from Wonder: Painted Sculpture from Medieval England (Henry Moore Institute, Leeds, 2002) to Art under Attack: Histories of British Iconoclasm (Tate Britain, 2013). Publications co-edited include Iconoclasm: Contested Objects, Contested Terms (Ashgate, 2007), Striking Images: Iconoclasms Past and Present (Ashgate, 2013); and “Trash as Trash as Art: Reflections on the Preservation and Destruction of Waste in Artistic Practice” in NANO: New American Notes Online (2014).
