Invites: Athena Papadopoulos
About
Athena Papadopoulos's multidisciplinary practice encompasses a range of processes, including painting, collage, drawing and stitching, and unusual materials such as mustard, red wine, Pepto-Bismol and shoe polish. Combining family photographs with hand-drawn figures, magazine cuttings and found objects she creates perversely humorous 2D and 3D forms. Existing as layered wall-hung canvases, oversized propped cushions or delicately amended pieces of clothing, Papadopoulos's objects suggest riotous narratives where fact and fiction are uncertain, and where protagonists remain mysterious and motives unclear.
Papadopoulos (b.1988, Toronto, Canada) completed a MFA in Fine Art Practice at Goldsmiths, University of London in 2013, and a BFA in Contemporary Art Theory and Visual Art at the University of British Columbia in 2011.
